The 2nd Porto Urban Greening Biennal, with the theme Cultivating Communities will take place on October 29th, 30th & 31st, 2026, at the Serralves Foundation in Porto. Here we will discuss the current and future challenges of Urban Green Infrastructure installation and management – a key strategy to address the climate emergency and foster environmental justice, social cohesion, and integration.

The program will include 3 sessions of keynote talks and debates:

Nature as Urban Renewal

How nature can drive urban regeneration rather than decorate it. This session brings together European experiences of neighbourhoods and parks transformed through nature-based solutions, with particular attention to processes that engaged residents from the outset.

Reclaiming the Ground

Returning soil to the city. From the unsealing of public space to community allotments and planting beds adopted by residents, this session explores practices that combine direct action, civic participation and the recovery of urban permeability.

Designing with the Living City

A session that moves across scales, from the soil to the city and from the city to the wider territory. It brings together scientific, heritage and design perspectives on what it means to design with living systems.

Confirmed Keynote: Aniket Bhagwat (India); John Little (UK); Remco Marcar (NL); Zac Tudor (UK); Stefano Olivari (IT); Maria Luisa Iglesias (SP); Cecilia Herzog (BR); Trevor Graham (SE); Catarina Maia (PT); OhLand (PT).
