From 2–4 September 2026, landscape architects, researchers, students and professionals from across Europe and beyond will gather in Riga, Latvia, for three inspiring days of knowledge sharing, networking and celebrating our profession.
LANDSCAPE IN TRANSITION
European landscapes are experiencing an intensity of change driven by climate pressures, biodiversity loss, social and economic transformations, cultural-political shifts, and the impacts of armed conflicts. Landscape in Transition invites us to analyse and interpret these processes of transformation: from degraded territories to restored ecosystems, from mono-functional structures to multifunctional landscapes, and from static planning approaches to dynamic and adaptive practices. Beyond physical change, transition is understood as a transformation of living socio-ecological systems and cultural narratives that shape our shared living landscapes. Landscapes are not static backdrops but creative and cultural constructs, continuously co-produced by nature and society.
The conference focuses on practical yet innovative professional approaches that help build resilient futures while safeguarding cultural heritage, place identity, and natural processes. It aims to create a platform for dialogue between research, professional practice, policy, and education by exploring how landscape architecture can actively guide transitions towards more sustainable, inclusive, regenerative, and beautiful landscapes.
