In an age of ecological and environmental urgency, landscape architecture must be more than the design of space — it must become a practice of care.

On Day 1 of the ECLAS Conference, a book session moderated by Inge Bobbink will bring together the authors of four books offering distinct yet complementary perspectives on contemporary landscape architecture and the practice of care.

Inge Bobbink — Circular Water Stories: Revealing the Wisdom of Traditional Water Systems for Today’s Challenges
Revealing the spatial, social and cultural knowledge embedded in traditional water systems, and exploring how inherited relationships with water can inform contemporary design.

Bianca Maria Rinaldi, Manuela Ronci & Emma Salizzoni — Stormwater: Designing for Flood Management in Public Open Spaces
Exploring stormwater as a design medium, through 26 European case studies of adaptive and amphibious public landscapes.

Noël van Dooren — The Dynamics of Landscape: Thinking, Drawing, Caring
Exploring how drawing and representation can help us understand the different systems, actors and rhythms that continuously shape landscapes over time.

Thierry Kandjee – Taktyk Landscape +
— Guardians of Water: Designing Landscapes of Flow – A Global Perspective
Approaching water not simply as a resource to be managed, but as a vital condition shaping territories and cultures, and asking what it means for designers to become “Guardians of Water”.

Together, these books raise important questions about how landscape architecture can respond to the motto of the conference, but also the role of publishing, visual research and critical reflection in shaping the future of landscape architecture.
