JMD design was established in 2007 to design and deliver high quality contemporary landscapes and open spaces; the practice has since its foundation been dedicated to designing spaces that engage with and reflect their cultural, social and natural context by paying careful attention to the already present. The work, whether in settings rich in industrial archaeology, urban intensity, or areas of ecological value, has sought out the particular over the general by paying careful attention to shifts and changes in the landscape as places of potential and meaning.
The practice has gained a reputation for transforming complex public domain issues into memorable, connected and activated open spaces with a clear relationship to existing urban, cultural, and environmental networks. This is because JMD design is committed to achieving both site specific and environmentally responsible design solutions that focus on the Civic and the idea of “the public” as a space that accommodates as wide a variety of users as possible both human and non.
