Feste: Seljord and the Legends is a rural district development project where physical design, art and cultural experiences are utilised as strategic instruments in the development. The project consists of several sub projects that all work within a common framework. Seljord and upper Telemark have a rich and vital storytelling tradition. The immaterial cultural heritage is an important element in the experience of the area’s landscape – a landscape of tales and legends. Here lies much of Seljord’s identity and soul. Throughout the project the aim has been to bring forth the invisible aspects of the cultural landscape, i.e. the tales and events that like there, layer upon layer, in our surrounding landscape. We aim to arrange for a total experience of landscape, legends, history and art. Contemporary art and modern architecture have been placed into the landscape, on sites associated with local tales and legends. The installations emerge from the site, they add something, and thus allow for new experiences of both tales and landscape.
