Gamble McKinnon Green: SW1 is a mixed-use inner city block demonstrating an exciting and sustainable new model for subtropical inner urban living, work and play, unique to and characteristic of Brisbane’s emergence as a world city. Bounded by four busy streets in the urban renewal hub of South Brisbane, it successfully combines offices, cafes, restaurants, shopping, townhouses, apartments, and function spaces, with fully accessible and safe 24 hour public open space and secluded private gardens. In 2004 Gamble McKinnon Green proposed this innovative vision for SW1, delivering design documentation through four stages to its 2010 opening. SW1 has recently been awarded the “Queensland Landscape Architecture Medal” and the “Australia Award for Urban Design”
