Furnishing Gardens by the Bay: Benches Between Futuristic Trees and Record Greenhouses

sponsored by Metalco

Gardens by the Bay is a national garden and premier horticultural attraction in Singapore, where man’s hand has moved in perfect harmony with nature: here artificial and technological trees, called Supertree Grove, stand next to boundless gardens and huge greenhouses, where thousands of plant species grow.
This Guinness World Record park is a showpiece of horticulture and garden artistry that presents the plant kingdom in a whole new way, entertaining while educating visitors with plants seldom seen in this part of the world, ranging from species in cool, temperate climates to tropical forests and habitats. Underlying the concept of Gardens by the Bay are the principles of environmental sustainability. Much effort was made to plan and design for sustainable cycles in energy and water throughout Bay South Garden.

Metalco has equipped the outdoor spaces of the two large greenhouses in the park with the Riva benches, a Collection of benches with wooden backrest and seat, composed of a supporting structure in cast aluminum, designed for Metalco by Staubach + Kuckertz Architekten und Designer.
The key feature of this seat is that all of the fixings are hidden: the Riva bench is perfectly integrated into the beautiful setting of the park, thus giving continuity to what has been the cornerstone of the project from the very beginning, namely the harmony between the hand of man and nature.

This installation is the biggest number of Riva Benches to date: thanks to our partner Playpoint Singapore Pte Ltd, who coordinated the whole project, there are a total of 60, 4-seater Riva benches installed in the park. For Metalco, this project was also a great opportunity to collaborate with an international tourist attraction that cares so much about the well-being of its visitors.
