“Light should not be a distracting element. It should fit comfortably into the environment during the day and facilitate the use of the space at night.”
Linnaea Tillett, PhD, CEO of Tillett Lighting Design Associates
New Ways to See
Designed with award-winning lighting designer Linnaea Tillett, the Profile family of lights from Landscape Forms creates beautiful and intentional light emanating from minimalist design. Illuminated I-beam channels and modular design create a visible poetry between the sculptural form and the play of light upon the object and its surroundings.
Profile’s palette of configurable options tailors the light’s aesthetic and performance to fit a variety of applications. While the light’s I-beam structure is a familiar element of construction, the form has been refined and presented in a new way, creating refreshing illumination that takes a thoughtful approach to what is (or is not) being lit.
One product family—composed of an area light, accent light, column light, and three bollards—can light an array of spaces, from large, open areas and narrow pathways to landscape beds and building entrances.
Union of Object and Light
Profile’s sculptural form takes on a quiet presence during the day; and at night, the object itself becomes the light that lends definition to the landscape.
Shadows from Profile’s I-beam channels create a light experience like no other: A compelling cascade of light comes from within, bringing architectural lighting techniques often used in interior spaces, like washing and grazing, to the outdoor realm.
This union of object and light are the result of Tillett’s creativity and insight paired with Landscape Forms’ expertise in lighting technology, engineering and manufacturing. Profile invites lighting designers and landscape architects to reimagine illumination.
Modular Thinking, Modular Design
Outdoor public spaces are increasingly required to do many things, and lighting for myriad uses calls for aesthetic and functional versatility. Profile’s modularity and fixture options provide tools with which to design unique, purposeful light experiences.
The Profile area, accent, and column lights have four heights and four color temperatures, with the area light also offering three distributions, two outputs, and clear and diffused lenses. Starting from a 10-foot-tall base unit, two-foot-tall add-on sections and foot lights further tailor the lights’ presence. Three bollard types—a performance, wayfinding, and unlit perimeter bollard—define boundaries and subtly light paths and landscaping.
“Public and social spaces are being asked to do more and more,” says Linnaea Tillett. “From playgrounds and food courts to performance spaces, such variety calls for landscape architects to think in more modular ways on how to light environments. Profile responds to that modular thinking with an aesthetically and functionally versatile design.”
