In London’s fastest growing area, this open green space welcomes the public to a new inner city residential development.
International Quarter London (IQL) is a mixed-use neighbourhood in Stratford, England’s most culturally-diverse district in the city’s fastest growing area – East London.
Home to the London Stadium and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford has been undergoing a renaissance since London won the bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games.
As part of IQL, Glasshouse Gardens is a residential development with a new public realm to cater to local communities of residents and workers.
Our design for Glasshouse Gardens reflects significant consultation with the client and users. It responds to feedback that the place should be open, not ‘gated’ and includes a new community open space, called The Spark.
This small inner city park packs a punch. The local council wanted a multi-use games area for the site, so we went beyond the brief. We designed a tech-enabled ‘host space’ that functions for sports and other types of events, with an amphitheatre, wi-fi and pop up screens. These accessible, multifunctional spaces accommodate a full program of events, activities and play.
Glasshouse Gardens is one of the UK’s best new apartment developments to live in as rated by residents, according to The Times newspaper.
