When Finnboda shipyard was transformed into an urban residential area, it based its new structures and axes on the old harbor industry elements such as slipways, docks and cranes, that are preserved on the site. Urbio has been part of the area’s redevelopment and designed both public squares and private courtyards. The area is designed with lush green courtyards that contrast the hard surfaces of the industrial inspired quayside. The surrounding of the former welding workshop is transformed into a public square with a “Walk of fame”. Through inscriptions in the ground, it reminds visitors of the areas hundred-year long history as a shipyard. The old slipway and its crane tracks are preserved, but at the same time renewed by added seating and greenery, which gives it new use and a new purpose.
