The Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) will soon announce the five finalists for the 2026 European Prize for Urban Public Space, following the selection of 25 shortlisted projects earlier this summer. The finalists will be revealed on 9 September, ahead of the final presentations and award ceremony at the CCCB in October.

This year’s edition received a record 381 submissions from 38 European countries. An international jury selected 25 projects from 14 countries, ranging from interventions in major European cities including Paris, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Lisbon, Brussels, Vienna and Warsaw to projects in smaller cities, towns and landscapes.

Landscape architecture has a particularly strong presence in this year’s selection: 21 of the 25 shortlisted works can broadly be considered landscape projects. They nevertheless span a wide range of scales and approaches, from small urban courtyards to parks, waterfronts and major infrastructural transformations, with ecological concerns running through much of the selection. The jury is chaired by architect Eva Prats, with Angelika Fitz, Monika Konrad, Inês Lobo, landscape architect Bas Smets and Philip Ursprung as members. The jury highlighted the shortlisted projects’ social impact as well as their spatial quality, material sensibility and relationship with existing urban fabric.

Many of the shortlisted projects and practices will already be familiar to followers of Landezine and LILA , including works by Wagon Landscaping, Agence Ter, EMF, topoScape, archigrest, SLA, Franz Reschke Landschaftsarchitektur, A24 Landschaft

The five finalists will be announced on 9 September. Their teams will present the projects publicly at the CCCB on 14 October, with the winner announced on 15 October.
