9-20 September / Landscape Triennial 2026, Arnhem: On a Water Basis

News —

From 9 to 20 September, the Arnhem region will be the setting for the Landscape Triennial 2026. Under the theme On a Water Basis, a diverse network of partners is presenting a wide-ranging programme of excursions, lectures, debates, exhibitions, workshops and cultural activities. At its heart is one urgent question: how should we shape the Netherlands if water and soil truly become guiding principles?

Climate change, increasingly extreme weather conditions and a changing water system are forcing the Netherlands to make far-reaching choices about the future of its spatial environment. The Landscape Triennial brings together designers, researchers, policymakers, students, entrepreneurs, artists and residents to explore that future together. Not from the perspective of a single discipline or a single solution, but from the conviction that tomorrow’s challenges require collaboration, imagination and new perspectives.

A diverse programme

The Landscape Triennial 2026 is a vibrant festival of inspiration, imagination and in-depth exploration, with water as its common thread. From 9 to 20 September, dozens of activities will take place, organised by a broad network of partners: from inspiring lectures and in-depth symposia to excursions through the landscape, exhibitions, workshops, walks and cultural events. Visitors are invited not only to observe the landscape, but also to experience it, question it and help shape it.

The landscape of tomorrow

The Landscape Triennial is for professionals and for anyone interested in the future of our living environment. Whether you are a designer, policymaker, student or simply curious about how the Netherlands is preparing for a changing climate, the Landscape Triennial invites everyone to think along, take part and be inspired. More programme elements will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Landscape Triennial 2026 is organised in collaboration with Akademie van de Veluwe, Arcadis, CASA Arnhem, Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen, Gelders Genootschap, Municipality of Arnhem, Groene Metropoolregio Arnhem–Nijmegen, Groei & Bloei, Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences, Dutch Water Museum, Province of Gelderland, Rijn en IJssel Water Authority and Vallei en Veluwe Water Authority.
