20–27 September / Climate Week NYC

News —

Climate weeks, organized by the international non-profit Climate Group, have become a fixture of the global climate calendar, with over 20 city-based editions taking place across the year. San Francisco opened the season in April, London Climate Action Week ran 20–28 June, and Toronto hosted its edition in early June. Later this autumn, Medellín will host what is billed as the first Climate Week in the Global South, running 28 September to 9 October.

The Climate Week NYC, which runs 20 to 27 September 2026, coincides with the UN General Assembly (events are live-streamed at the UN-WebTV). Now in its 18th year and attracting over 100,000 attendees, the week brings together business leaders, policymakers, scientists, and civil society across hundreds of events throughout New York City. The official programme opened on 21 September with a ceremony at which senior leaders addressed progress on climate commitments, followed by The Hub Live on 21 and 22 September.

The week’s programme touches on landscape, nature, and urban resilience in several sessions. The New York Climate Exchange is hosting a session asking how public landscape can function as climate infrastructure, exploring nature-based approaches at three scales across three geographies, as well as a session on mainstreaming nature-based solutions city-wide. The New York Botanical Garden is hosting talks on nature and urban climate resilience, with a keynote by Dr. Timon McPhearson (NYU Urban Systems Lab) and a panel on cities as climate catalysts. A roundtable session on Interior Ecologies is co-hosted by HEAD–Genève, MoMA, and Columbia GSAPP and examines how interior and spatial design engages with resource circulation and multispecies coexistence.

The Climate and Community Institute (CCI) is participating across the week with sessions on energy, labour, and climate justice, including Building Postcarbon Futures (23 September) and a book talk with Thea Riofrancos on Extraction (25 September).
